Da Jesus Book cova    How Fo Say Stuff      Da Jesus Story CD cova

Da Hawaii Pidgin language get plenny stuff dat come from English, plantation time, but get plenny stuff dat stay diffren too. Dis map show you wat happen from da subjeck to da main verb inside one Pidgin kine sentence. Ony stay litto bit like da English:

Dis picha, jalike one map dat show how fo go thru da hard part a plenny Pidgin kine sentences. Da subjeck stay da lef side, blue. Da main verb (da one dat tell wat you saying bout da subjeck) stay da right side, green. All da helpa kine stuff stay inside da middo.

You can go from da lef side to da right side, from one box to da nex box. You no can go to da box dat stay unda o ova da box you stay in.

Da blue part. Get diffren kine subjeck fo Pidgin, not like English. Wen no mo subjeck (dass wat da *** mean), you not tinking bout one guy o one ting, o one stack guys o tings, cuz no matta, who o wat da subjeck: "Can go inside?" "Can." Dat mean anybody. An inside da yellow part, da same kine ----- mean, you no can pick "like" if no mo da subjeck.

Fo da pronoun, get two kine. Da first kine, da regula pronoun dat go almos every place. Da second one, da spesho pronoun fo da subjeck. Fo talk bout yoaself, "me" da regula pronoun, an "I" da spesho pronoun fo da subjeck. But can use da regula pronoun fo da subjeck if you like make um sound like "poor ting": "Her stay sick, you know." "You" and "you guys" go every place, not jus da subjeck. "You guys," everytime fo talk to mo den one guy, but "you" can be one guy o plenny guys. "Us" an "us guys," an "dem" an "dem guys," everytime talk bout mo den one guy.

Can use da first kine pronoun wit da second kine, if you like change wat you talking bout. "Us guys, we like go beach," mean dat maybe you was talking bout some odda ting, but now, you like talk ony bout "us guys."

Da purple part. Wen get adjective, "no" come "not" if no mo helpa between dem.

Da red part. "Wen" say dat da ting you talking about happen befo one nodda ting happen. Get times wen "wen" mean dat da ting happen awready, befo da time you stay talking. Get odda times wen no say notting bout da time you stay talking. English, da ting dey call da past tense everytime hook up wit da time you talking, so not da same kine ting like Pidgin "wen." If "no" an "wen" come togedda, gotta put um togedda spesho kine an say "neva." "Neva" no mean wat English kine "never" mean, jus mean "no" + "wen."

"Goin" mean you stay kinda shua da ting you talking bout goin happen. "Can," you not real shua, cuz maybe no goin happen.

"Suppose to, gotta, betta" mean dat somebody goin make shua da ting goin happen. "Betta" mean da guy dat goin do um know inside az importan fo him do um, an someting bad can happen if he no do um. "Gotta" mean get presha fo him do um. "Suppose to" mean dat everybody tink az good fo him do um, but dey no goin make big trouble if he no do um. Wen "no" come togedda wit "betta," dey flip out, so you say "betta not."

Da yellow part. "Like" mean dat da subject feel good wen he tink bout him doing da ting dat da main verb say, but no say if he goin do um o he no going do um. Da ----- mean, no can use "like" if you just talking bout anybody, widout subjeck.

Da light blue part. "Try" wen you talking to odda peopo an you like um fo do someting, no mean same same jalike "try" wen you making strong fo do someting but you donno if you can do um. Dis kine "try" mean dat you making nice to dem fo dem do someting, but you not making dem presha. No mix wit da purple o red o yellow kine helpas.

Da green part. Get four diffren kine main verb words dat go wit all dis stuff:

  • "get"
  • da adjective kine
  • da "how stay" kine
  • da "happen" kine.

" Get " get plenny diffren meaning. Ony one kine "get" stay inside da green hea. Dat kine, da one dat no mo subjeck. Dat one tell, da objeck stay some place, an maybe tell wat place: "Get fish today" no say dat one guy get fish, ony dat dey stay some place. Wen "no" come togedda wit dis kine "get," gotta say "no mo," an if need "wen" too, gotta say "neva have." (Wit da "happen" kine "get," dass diffren kine. Dat kine mean dat somebody go do someting, like "Kimo wen get new surfboard." Den can say "no get" o "neva get". But dass not dis kine, dat no mo subjeck.)

Da " adjective " kinda like one verb, but get diffren kine helpas. Can go wit "mo," an wit "come" fo talk bout fo change how someting stay, like "come huhu", an wit "get" fo talk bout wen someting change an gotta be one way o da odda way, like "get hapai" -- you no can be litto bit hapai, but you can come ony litto bit huhu. Wit "be," dat mean da subjeck working fo make shua he o she stay da way da adjective say, like "be strong," dat mean you gotta do someting fo make shua you strong. Da adjective can go wit "stay," like "my auntie stay mo strong now."

Da " how stay " kine verb no use "mo" o "come" o da firs kine "get" o "be," but still yet talking bout how someting stay "Da hambugga get mustard inside" no mo da firs kine "get," but same time, da hambugga no stay do notting, ony sit dea. Sometimes use da helpa "stay" fo make mo strong da idea dat dis fo long time.

Da " happen " kine verb mean dat someting come diffren o somebody do someting. Can use "stay" wit dis kine too fo say dat happen fo long time. Da helpa "go" mean dat somebody do someting cuz dey like do um, an if dey no do um, notting going happen. Weneva da two helpas "stay" an "go" come togedda, gotta flip um an say "go stay". Dass how get "I go stay go, you go stay come".

All dat, show dat da Pidgin language get grammar dat not da same grammar dat da odda languages get.
